John is a co-founder and director of the Take a Hike Youth at Risk Foundation, a member of the Advisory Boards of the Phillips, Hager & North Centre for Financial Research and the Bureau of Asset Management (both at the UBC), and is also Co-Chair of the Downtown Eastside Community Arts Fund, and an advisor to Power to Be Adventure Therapy Society. John is also a member of the selection committee for the Loran Awards, an awards program that supports talented students who show promise of leadership and a strong commitment to service in the community.
