He began his military career as an enlisted soldier and a paratrooper in Army Special Operations. After serving in that capacity for several years, he attended Campbell University on an ROTC scholarship, graduating summa cum laude and receiving his commission as an Army officer. Dr. Vining went on to complete his Masters of Business Administration at the University of North Carolina with concentrations in corporate finance and new venture entrepreneurship. In addition to his clinical role as an orthopedic trauma surgeon, Dr. Vining serves as the National Medical Director for Surgical Services for Team Health, the largest physician staffing service in the United States. As such, he has clinical and administrative oversite over a nation-wide network of acute-care surgical programs and takes a central role in the business development of the division's growth strategy. Among his responsibilities, he sits on the Physician Leadership Council for the corporate executive team, which advises on clinical leadership and direction for the company's 18,000+ medical providers. Dr. Vining continues his service to the men and women of the Armed Forces by serving as a charter member and chair-elect of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Geneva Foundation. The Foundation is a non-profit foundation which plans, designs, and executes military specific medical research conducted in U.S. military medical treatment facilities world-wide. In this role, Dr. Vining has advisory oversight of nearly 400 research programs with $50 million in total grant, contract, and award revenue. He resides, with his family, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
