He served as Vice Provost for Academic and Campus Technology and Chief Information Officer at the University of Colorado at Boulder from 1998-2007, as founding director of the Alliance for Technology, Learning and Society (ATLAS), a campus-wide information technology institute from 1997-2007, as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Engineering and Applied Science from 1995-1997, and as chair of the Department of Computer Science from 1990-1995. Bobby is a co-founder and executive team member of the National Center for Women & Information Technology. He currently serves on the advisory committee for the NSF Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering and on the board of code.org. He is a fellow of ACM and of SIAM, received the Computing Research Association Nico Habermann Award in 2012, and was named a White House Champion of Change for Women in STEM in 2011. Bobby has served as chair of the ACM Education Policy Committee; as chair of the advisory committee for the Computing Alliance of Hispanic Serving Institutions; on the advisory board of the Computing and Information Science and Engineering directorate of the National Science Foundation; and on the boards of the Kinsey Institute, TechPoint, and the Indiana University Research and Technology Corporation. He received a BA degree in mathematics from Dartmouth College in 1971, summa cum laude, and a MS and PhD in computer science from Cornell University in 1975 and 1977, respectively.
